"Inaction is not an option”—national Campaign to Fix the Debt headlines public event on May 1

Former Governor Phil Bredesen, steering committee co-chair of the national Campaign to Fix the Debt will keynote at the Holden Public Policy Forum, Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Winifred Moore Auditorium on the campus of Webster University (parking and directions).

The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.

The Campaign to Fix the Debt is a non-partisan movement to put America on a better fiscal and economic path. The Campaign focuses on educating Americans about the debt and mobilizes communities and leaders to work together to press elected officials to "step up to solve our nation’s fiscal challenges.”

Co-founded by Erskine Bowles, who served in the Clinton Administration as the director of the Small Business Administration, the deputy chief of staff, and the chief of staff, and three-term Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyoming), the Campaign is led by a cohort of high profile business, civic and political leaders.

The U.S. debt crisis is owned by every American and according to Fix the Debt, "inaction is not an option.” The size of U.S. public debt is more than 70% of the economy. Rising debt will slow economic growth and reduce the average citizen’s standard of living. Higher debt will also negatively impact future generations and leave the United States less able to respond to the crises of the future.

"There is no question that the debt crisis is among the most profound challenges our nation faces,” shares Holden, who co-chairs Missouri's Fix the Debt chapter. "The Forum has long been focused on creating dialogue around the key issues in national headlines and engaging citizens to meet new challenges facing our community, our state, and our nation. We are honored to welcome Gov. Bredesen and we echo his challenge to take action on this issue and to urge elected representatives to do the same.”
